A customer in Daventry, Northamptonshire needed a new key for their Ford Ka 2014 — the original was lost and they needed to be back on the road. We attended at the customer's home and had two fully programmed flip keys ready within the hour.
The Job
The Ford Ka (Mk2) uses a flip-key format with a 4D transponder chip that must be coded to the car's immobiliser. No dealer appointment, no recovery truck — our mobile unit carries dedicated Ford key-cutting equipment and the diagnostic interface needed to write new keys to the ECU on the driveway.
We cut and programmed two new flip keys, tested both — locking, unlocking, ignition start — before we left. Customer drove away with a key and a spare in hand.
Why Two Keys?
When a Ford Ka has no working key, we need to do a full immobiliser reset to introduce new keys. The cost to add one key and two keys is nearly identical once we're on-site — so we always recommend programming a spare at the same visit. One key is a vulnerability; two keys is peace of mind.
Coming back later to add a spare means another call-out. It just makes sense to do it together.
