A customer in Daventry had lost all keys to their Ford Kuga 2014 with no spare remaining. We attended on-site and resolved the situation the same day — bonnet up, immobiliser reset, and two brand new smart keys programmed and working before we left.
The Job
The Ford Kuga uses a proximity smart key — the car detects the key fob to allow entry and start. When all keys are lost, the immobiliser has no reference key to authorise: it must be reset using specialist equipment before any new key can be programmed. This is why all keys lost jobs cannot be done with a basic key cutter — they need a full diagnostic interface and the right software for Ford's PATS immobiliser system.
We carried the correct Ford-compatible equipment and blanks. Bonnet open, OBD connected, immobiliser reset, two new keys cut and programmed — both tested in the door and ignition before we left the customer with a working vehicle.
Why Two Keys?
We always recommend programming two keys where possible during an all keys lost job. A single key means you're always one lost key away from the same situation. Having a spare means that if the worst happens again, replacing one key from a working spare is straightforward — no immobiliser reset needed.
