A customer in Daventry, Northamptonshire came to us needing a spare key for their Kia Sportage 2014. The Sportage is a dependable and popular compact SUV, but like many used cars it arrived with only one key. We attended on-site and had a working spare cut and programmed within the hour.
The Job
The 2014 Kia Sportage (SL generation, third series) uses a Megamos 48 transponder in a flip-key format. Adding a spare requires specialist Kia/Hyundai diagnostic equipment to synchronise the new key to the immobiliser without erasing the original. We carry the correct blanks and programming tools on the van.
Both keys were tested — locking, unlocking, engine start — before we left the customer.
One Key Is One Too Few
The Sportage is driven hard — school runs, site work, daily commuting. A single key with no spare is a vulnerability. Lose it or damage it and you're looking at a more involved all-keys-lost job, higher cost, and a recovery wait. Adding a spare while the original is present is always quicker and cheaper.
We come to wherever the car is — home, work, a car park — and the job is done on the spot.
