A customer in Daventry, Northamptonshire needed a spare key for their Audi S3 2010 (60 plate). We came out to them and had a fully programmed spare key in their hands within the hour — no dealer appointment, no towing, no waiting.
The Job
The 2010 Audi S3 (8P generation) uses a VAG ID48 crypto transponder paired to the immobiliser via the instrument cluster. Adding a spare key means programming the new transponder to accept the car's immobiliser signal — a process that requires specialist VAG-compatible equipment and the correct Audi key blank.
We carried the correct blank for this generation on the van, cut the flip key blade to match the existing key, and programmed the transponder and remote on-site. One fully working spare key, tested and handed over.
Why Add a Spare Key While You Still Have One?
Adding a spare when you still have the original key is significantly cheaper and simpler than an all-keys-lost job. With an original present, programming is straightforward. Once all keys are lost, the process becomes more involved — and the cost reflects that. A spare key is the cheapest insurance you can buy for your car.
We recommend getting a spare cut and programmed whenever you buy a used car with only one key — and the 2010 Audi S3 is exactly the sort of age where a previous owner may have lost one.
