A customer in Northampton called us after losing all the keys to their Renault Megane 2014. Several other locksmiths had been unable to complete the job — the Renault card key system requires specialist equipment that many general locksmiths don't carry. We attended and had a fully working new card key programmed on-site.
The Job
The Renault Megane MK3 (2008–2016) uses a distinctive Renault card key — a flat, credit-card-style fob that also contains the transponder. There is no traditional blade. With all keys lost, the immobiliser must be accessed directly via the OBD port and a full PIN extraction performed before any new key can be written. Renault's UCH (Under Column Head) unit holds the security data and must be read without a working key present — which is exactly where most standard programming tools fail.
We carry Renault-specific diagnostic equipment including the capability to perform PIN-less immobiliser access on MK3 Megane. The new card key was programmed, tested for remote locking and engine start, and the customer was back on the road the same evening.
Why Other Locksmiths Couldn't Help
Renault's security architecture changed significantly with the MK3 Megane. The combination of UCH-based PIN storage, the card key format, and the need for OBD-level immobiliser communication means that basic key cutting machines and entry-level programming tools simply won't work. This is a job that requires the right equipment and experience — we've invested in both.
